God's will or your will

Mark Williams
God has the Ultimate in Rewards for those who choose to serve him "with all there heart". Proverbs 3:5-12. I'm reminded of his daily leading and direction as I read "Today if you hear his voice, Do not harden your hearts" Hebrews 4:7. Notice the "today" is a choice. Every Struggle,Trial, and temptation comes with a way out (it's in the bible you know). The Voice and direction of our Lord will never lead us astray. The question is, will we allow the Word of God to be our answer and action, or will we "choose" not to hear "today" and move on in our own understanding and will? "To obey is better than sacrifice" means exactly that. Obey his instructions (even when it hurts) and Receive his Reward, or Choose our own paths and act accordingly, and there will be a sacrifice, (loss of his intended Reward). We will reap what we sow. It's often said we desire the best but we must also give our best. Laying down "self" and "picking up our cross" is Putting Power to the Words of God! Go and get your Promised Rewards!

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, "If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt." (NLT Exodus 13:17 ) Rather than take the shortest, most direct route to the Promised Land, the Lord took them on a longer path to avoid the Philistines. Why? God knew they were weak and if forced with choosing between a battle or slavery they would rather be a slave. Are there situations where we choose to be a slave rather than battle? We can be slaves to our guilt, bitterness, or blame rather than do the work to be freed. Have you chosen to be a slave to your blame and resentment rather than do the work to forgive?

Their insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me. (NLT Psalm 69:20) Our God is filled with compassion and as His followers we too should be filled with compassion. One of the ways we can follow closer behind God is by showing mercy to those who need it most. What does can this look like? Befriend someone who is bullied and lonely. Generously babysit for single mothers struggling to make ends meet. Teach your business knowledge to a fledgeling young graduate. You have a lot to offer, if only you would turn and comfort them.
